What to Wear for Your Holiday Mini Session Photos | Lights and Good Tidings 2019 Event | Dallas Family Photographer

Dallas, TX

Planning your Holiday Family Photoshoot already this year? It’s the perfect time to start taking your Family photos so that you have plenty of time to order your Christmas cards and start mailing them soon!  With Lights & Good Tidings approaching, I wanted to share some tips and outfit ideas for your Christmas and Holiday mini sessions.

This year’s theme is  “A Timeless Christmas”

color scheme: black, white, and sage

Depending on your family’s style and which session you decide to book you can go more traditional with deep reds, silvers, golds, and creams

or

more casual with a laid-back boho or farmhouse colored inspiration.  No matter which direction you go, here are some tips to remember and a few style guides with ideas!

Tip 1:

Don’t wear too much plaid. I recommend one person per family wear plaid and the rest wear solid colors.  Too many patterns together will clash and take away from highlighting your faces and expressions.  If you are having multiple people wear plaid make sure they are the same plaid and not a different color or pattern.

Tip 2:

Wear similar colors.  Pick outfits that are the same tone, whether that be warm tones or cool tones.  Pick a color theme that will go with the set you chose for your mini session.

Tip 3:

If you’re booking more than one set – change up the outfits.

We will be offering three different sets to choose from at Lights & Good Tidings. If you booked 2 or even all three sets, feel free to change your outfits for each. Just make sure you leave enough time in between each session when booking so that you give yourself time to change between sessions.

Below are some ideas of what you can wear at each set.

WINTER’S EVERGREEN WITH SANTA:

When taking photos at our “Winter’s Evergreen Christmas with Santa” set, I recommend you dress more formal (something similar to what you would wear to church) if you are taking photos with Santa with the whole family. If you just want your children to take pictures with Santa they could wear their Christmas pajamas, which always looks super cute. Perhaps a cute little dress for the girls and a little bow tie for the boys.  Traditional reds and white pair well with this set and with Santa.

A FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS:

Our “A Farmhouse Christmas” set is perfect for those Joanna Gaines inspired colors.  Neutrals like grays and creams with pops of gold and those greenery hues are perfect.  You can dress more formal like our style guide below, but if casual is more your style, feel free to be inspired by the color palette above but keep it a little less formal.

A BO-HO-HO CHRISTMAS:

The “A Bo-Ho-Ho Christmas” set is crafted together for a cozy and casual feel.  Use similar inspiration as you see below with traditional Christmas colors and a buffalo check print to have the timeless holiday look.  Or maybe coordinating Christmas PJs are your thing, this is the perfect setting for that too!  Take off your shoes and snuggle in together on a blanket, let your kids play in our Boho teepee and capture those candid moments. Screen Shot 2018-11-01 at 10.33.58 AM.png

Tip 4:

Kids should feel comfortable. The most important thing is for you and your child to feel comfortable. If your child hates wearing jeans, then don’t make him/her wear it just for the pictures.  This may lead to them being distracted and too busy trying to take their clothes off than enjoying the moment of the mini session. holiday-pajama-photo-session

Tip 5:

Come Tidy & Ready.  When you arrive at our event, there will be crafts, music, a table to write Santa a letter, games, a boho market, and refreshments.  You’ll want to join in on the fun.  This is why we recommend you come ready, well-groomed, hair done, makeup done (if you wear any).  This way you won’t be rushed and can enjoy your time.  And don’t forget to wear lotion that day, especially the guys, they tend to forget.

Lights and Good Tidings is only a week away!

I hope to see you all there. I can’t wait to see everything come to life. The pictures above are only inspiration of what it’s going to look like. I am still working hard on getting everything for the event, but I hope you enjoy so far what you see! It’s going to look amazing! It will be an event you don’t want to miss!
